Pico Laser
皮秒雷射
The picosecond (pico) laser functions in both ablative and non-ablative modes. Its applications include pigment reduction, acne scar management, skin brightening, rejuvenation, and tattoo removal.
Pico lasers emit ultra-short picosecond pulses—100 times shorter than conventional nanosecond pulses—delivering energy more rapidly. This reduced pulse duration significantly minimizes thermal build-up, lowering the risk of laser-induced hyperpigmentation.

How the Pico Laser works
Operating Wavelength: The pico laser primarily operates at a 1064nm wavelength. Using a patented Quanta Pico-Boost Technology, specific choices of pico lasers (such as the one used at Mizu) can deliver up to 1.8GW of power.
Mechanism of Action:
-
The picosecond laser breaks down pigmentation into smaller fragments, helping the skin clear these fragments more efficiently and potentially reducing the total number of treatments required.
-
At the 1064nm wavelength, the laser energy is specifically targeted and absorbed by the pigmentation, fracturing it into smaller pieces that are subsequently cleared away by the skin's immune system.
Clinical Efficiency:
Because of its mechanism, the pico laser can effectively clear both pigmentation and tattoos in fewer sessions.
1. Advanced Photoacoustic Precision (Minimal Thermal Damage)
-
Mechanical Pigment Shattering: Instead of relying primarily on heat (photothermal action), the Discovery Pico uses powerful photoacoustic shockwaves to mechanically break down stubborn pigment granules into microscopic dust particles that the body can naturally clear.
-
Reduced Risk of Side Effects: Because its pulse duration is 100 times shorter than traditional nanosecond lasers, the skin heats up much less. This significantly minimizes thermal damage to surrounding tissue and lowers the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
2. Superior Efficiency & Fewer Treatment Sessions
-
Faster Clearance: By pulverizing pigment and tattoo ink into micro-fine particles, the skin's immune system can clear them out much more efficiently.
-
Fewer Sessions Needed: Its high peak power and advanced technology allow it to clear both stubborn pigmentation and multi-colored tattoos in fewer treatment sessions compared to traditional Q-switched lasers.

3. Dual-Mode Versatility (Ablative & Non-Ablative)
-
Customizable Settings: The system operates in both ablative and non-ablative modes, allowing practitioners to tailor treatments to each patient's specific skin needs.
-
Multi-Wavelength Precision: Equipped with multiple true wavelengths (such as 532nm, 694nm, and 1064nm), it can precisely target both superficial epidermal lesions and deeper dermal pigments or ink colors.
4. Comprehensive Skin Rejuvenation & Scar Remodeling
-
Fractional Capability: Using specialized fractional attachments (like the Discovery Pico Fractional or Twain handpieces), the laser creates microscopic zones of controlled dermal injury (LIOB - Laser-Induced Optical Breakdown).
-
Collagen & Elastin Stimulation: This process triggers a robust wound-healing response, stimulating deep neocollagenesis and elastin production to smooth out atrophic acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, and rough skin topography.
